Bring your address books and join us for an afternoon of good old-fashioned letter-writing fun at Paper Hammer!
April is National Letter Writing Month, and to celebrate we invite you to write letters with us on April 8th, from 11am to 3pm. We will have a letter-writing station with art materials for writing and decorating your mail.
In this workshop, we'll make a hardcover Coptic stitch journal. You'll learn to cut, drill, and cover boards, assemble the textblock, and sew with the beautiful exposed stitching that makes the Coptic structure unique. Everyone will leave with a completed book and a new set of skills.
Learn how to make beautiful blank books! In this class, we will complete three simple projects: a basic pamphlet-bound book, an accordion fold book, and a simple hardcover. You’ll leave with at least three books that you have crafted yourself, and the knowledge and essential skills to make many more in endless variations.
Learn to make a Japanese-style portfolio to hold loose, unbound sheets of paper such as drawings or prints, thin books, or ephemera collections. You'll make a cloth-covered case, lined with paper and fitted with three flaps to protect the edges of the contents, with a linen tie as a closure. These cases can be made in any size, with any arrangement of flaps or pockets inside. We'll talk about all of the possibilities and variations on this versatile structure.
Book artist Melanie Brauner will teach you to make an accordion book in just 15 minutes, and you’ll get to take the book you make home with you! Kids are welcome, accompanied by another workshop participant over 16 years old. All tools and materials will be provided.
15-minute time slots available from 12:00 to 5:00 pm. Drop-in and take the workshop on the fly, or give us a call to reserve a time slot.
